So, I watched it last night.
A few thoughts:
Surprised about where I actually found it interesting. The early part Mo'Wax & Psyence Fiction, I think history has already covered fairly well. Nice to watch but nothing really new.
War Stories & WDTNF era I found interesting.
Rich seems in a really good place about the whole experience now. Pablo looks and sounds like he'd like to get there too. I hope they sort it out.
Wasn't as harsh on James as I'd heard it was going to be. He comes out of it fairly well in the end. Funnily, the non musicians in the documentary seem to have a better understanding of his contributions than the musicians do. I guess that's just where the fundamental problem lies. Ego.

I'm not sure it is ego, mate, or, if it is, it's James Lavelle's, not theirs. The bottom line is: Lavelle isn't a musician; Lavelle isn't a producer. I appreciate he's been a DJ a long time, but that doesn't make him capable of actually writing music. Josh Homme - a man who is more than capable of writing music - was a lot kinder than he could have been, to be honest.

Josh Homme's bits were the best. He's so naturally funny.

If you want to get paid for your concept, you have to be a concept artist. I think in the music business you never get paid for your concept only, you will get paid for your production work, for your cover art, for your music you have written, but not for your ideas that others have to bring to life. And how Lavelle treated DJ Shadow who did all the work for him you can see in Shadow`s eyes in the part of the movie where they were interviewed back in the days. That was really really shameful.

Luckily, good region-free BD players are easy to come by these days, even in the USA. Enjoyed the film, too. Shame the extras were SD, but in the end, I don’t need to see the reflection off Rich’s head or the crumbs in Pablo’s beard that badly.

Was it just me or was the sound on some of the interviews really bad?

For anyone who saw it in cinemas in the UK, what was the "never-before-seen post-credits interview with James Lavelle" that was being advertised. It won't be shown outside the UK for some reason so I won't get a chance to see it.

Was it just me or was the sound on some of the interviews really bad? yea (at least on the bonus disc) Dj Krush's voice is TERRIBLE also - did I imagine it, or didn't they say that there was going to be an interview with Tim Goldsworthy as a bonus feature? ...but getting back to the documentary - I do feel like it was SUCH a wasted moment to have Jarvis Cocker & Brian Eno on NNL... given what was eventually released, know what I mean? I was shocked to hear that snippet of the original 'I Need Something Stronger'

He just tells you what he has been up to post Meltdown.

I would like to hear more of the music from this time period, but hopefully we should hear it on the Psyence Fiction re-issue. Whenever that comes out.

The Bluray package is really great.
Watched this twice now, and being in a raw state myself at the moment found it compelling and although it supports the narrative of the film. When Shadow turns up at the end it really got me.
Funny how the film is anchored a lot by Charlie 'Attica Blues', Pablo and others.
Will watch again I'm sure.
