EAC + FLAC
... goes together like Black & Tan, Spaghetti &
Meatballs, Lamb & Tuna Fish.
Things you need to make this bad boy work:
Exact Audio Copy v0.95 PreBeta 5 –Here-
FLAC Command Line v1.1.1 –Here-
Once you download and install EAC, unzip the contents of the FLAC tools to the same dir, it just makes things easier.
Once you fire up EAC and go through the initial setup process, you most definitely want to use Secure mod for the most accurate rip possible. 90% of the time, EAC’s auto detected defaults are fine, incase you have an oddball CD reader, tweak as necessary for a fast clean rip.
After this is all setup, fill in your FreeCD information or go old school and enter in all the CD information your damn self either time, your choice on this one.
Onward to the Compression settings. EAC does not natively support the FLAC command line tool. No clue in hell why it doesn’t, especially since it makes an effort to include every other caca quality lossy encoder on the planet. Under compression settings, the second tab enables the external encoder. Head on over there and enable it.
Under Parameter passing scheme, set that to “User Defined Encoder”, use file extension: “.flac”<br>
Browse for wherever you saved the flac.exe file. Then here is the important part:
Additional command line options:
-8 -T "artist=%a" -T "title=%t" -T "album=%g" -T "date=%y" -T "tracknumber=%n" -T "genre=%m" %s
…got all that??
As for the rest, Set bit rate to 320Kbps, usually double what it estimates and your close +/-.
Delete WAV after compression is a personal preference, on/off your choice.
Use CRC check is inconsequential, but “Check for external program return code” must be
unchecked.
To rip, just drop in a CD and once it is recognized, either:
A) Hit the mp3 button on the side and it will rip 1 FLAC file per Track.
or
B) Go to actions and Create a Cue sheet with Compressed image for a FLAC file with a .CUE file so it is one continuous file with a reference file that can be burned back with thte likes of Nero or Roxio/Toast.
Hopefully these instructions will help, PM me with any other questions.
