Just read that Mixmag article from last year...
So What happened to No Pain No Gain. Keith Flint was featured pretty prominently in that article and then they never release the song?...sort of weird.

yea - I actually even asked around Neko's website...
and no one had any idea what happened to the track (so at least keith + prodigy fans don't know what's going on)
(also of note) there are a few different tracks mentioned in both mixmag & muzik (when it existed) that never came out: • NNL tracks w/ the girl who sang "Chaos" • UNKLEsounds edit of Massive Attack's "I Against I" -> it was to be on the GU: Barcelona • James Lavelle / UNKLE mix of the Prodigy/MA collaboration "No Souveneirs"

Not too sure what happened to the No Pain No Gain track, I will see if I can find out, my best friend is the Prodigy's live guitarist so he might know something.

Yeh, that's the chap! Well doesn't really matter if your not into them anymore as they split up! They were very good live though, you missed out there. He's still doing stuff for the Prod whilst working on his own new project.

Just had a word with Jim, he said the track was recorded as a possibility for being included in the last Prod album but was never used, it may be used as a B side some time.

It seems really strange that it should have ended up on the prodigy album or even as a Prodigy b-side, since it's written by Lavelle and features the vocals of File.

Yeh, I thought that too, but that what I've been told. I do know at the time a fair few of the tracks Liam was going to use for the new album were originally written by other people, but after the bad press they got after they played at Reading about not moving on musically, Liam scrapped the lot and started again writing most of it himself. I think he was just getting lazy!!

I think it's both Flint and File doing the vocals.

Well spotted shivo. As far as I'm aware, James and Keith wrote it together, but I've no idea who actually owns the track itself.

the vocals are by Kieth Flint, not rich File Ah, sorry. I ment that it is both Rich and Keith singing. Ok, all I know is this: On early tracklists it was never ment to be a bonus track and was placed as track number 5 on the NNL album. Then it was set to be a bonus track (on Mo Wax: 9865550). And a bootleg "UNKLE/Joey Beltram ‘No Pain No Gain vs Energy Flash" which was aired on the radio, stated that Island owned the track. Possibly making it a copyright problem since UNKLE moved to global underground.

That's interesting. Sounds like it's one of those tracks held in record company limbo somewhere! Hopefully one day they will sort it out and release it.
