Urban Archeology Instalment eight of Urban Archeology - a feature exclusive to Original Headz, where James shares artefacts and ephemera from both the UNKLE/Mo' Wax archives and his own personal history. "This month I've found yet more interesting video footage from the archives - this time taken from a DJ session in Tokyo. This took place at the club Yellow with MC Takagi Kan: original Major Force crew, who was rapping through a vocoder throughout the night on a Beastie Boys 'Intergalactic' tip. The party was shortly after the Psyence Fiction release in the UK so it may have been part of an album release launch. I was travelling to Japan regularly in those days DJing and running Mo’ Wax Japan. What I love about the footage is how raw it is in the club and how it conveys the atmosphere. This was a great time to play in Japan, audiences were really finding themselves and there was an amazing energy. DJ set - Tokyo The track selection was a classic set of records from the time including Mo’ Wax records, classic Hip Hop, Major Force, Beastie Boys and it ends with an explosive moment: Nirvana’s 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. You can listen to a recently uncovered DAT recording of the set over on the UNKLE Mixcloud now."

Pretty cool set, cuts out a few times at the beginning but nothing serious. Really mad stuff with the vocoder!
