unkle.bandcamp.com/album/do-yourself-some-goodNew track, very oldskool. James must have been inspired by the old PF demos. Sounds good to me. > Today, UNKLE return with the uplifting new track, 'Do Yourself Some Good'. The single premiered on Mary Anne Hobbs' show on BBC 6Music and is taken from the forthcoming mixtape, 'Rōnin I' - set for a March 26th release on Studio:UNKLE. > James was inspired by his early DJ roots, playing at clubs like 'That's How It Is', (which he ran with Gilles Peterson) and Dusted (at the Blue Note), the Mo'Wax Period, and his love of breaks, samples, Super Disco Breaks and edits. > Experimenting with these influences to create something new, the track is rooted in the classic Mo’ Wax spirit and given a contemporary twist through the use of modern production techniques. The track was produced with long-time UNKLE collaborator Steven Weston.

I really like it.
I've enjoyed The Road era, but PT2 was the 1st Unkle album where I felt he'd 'settled' into a sound and was retreading old ground. I said a while back the best thing James could do would be to surprise us with something very different.
So if this is an indication to moving into a funky-disco direction or experimenting with new sounds before figuring where to go for the next album, I'll be happy.
Credit to Steven Weston too - know he's been involved with the live side for years, but (I'm prob wrong) get the impression this is one of his first for Unkle as the 'primary' songwriter.

I really like this track. Liked it straight away and agree that perhaps the road pt2 was maybe a bit too earnest or unexciting for want of a better word. Though I do still like it. But I feel this just has a bit more get up and go about it and not quite so serious sounding. Putting a bit of fun back into it.

Wow what a tune!! Great to hear James and Weston revisiting the Golden age of mo wax with a fresh spin. This track and the first single from the forthcoming Ronin mixtape have me genuinely excited for the full release this spring 🙏

Anyone picked the samples?
American Gypsy - Inside Out
Uko - Do Yourself Some Good whoops that sampled the original
Anything else in there?

Ok, so I'm really liking this (prefer the shorter edit to the throwdown)
