Can someone who is more knowledgeable in these things give me some kind of overview of all the Mo' Wax Compilation CD's please?
A sort of compare/contrast & what you would roughly expect to be paying?
I've had the Scientific Abstract Shit one for a while & i've just managed to pick up Royalties Overdue, The Story Of Mo' Wax & Headz 2a so was just wondering if any others are worth picking up or if there's overlap?
Just I notice The Story Of Mo' Wax is German or something & my Headz 2a is a 2*CD Slipcase whereas I notice there's a book-style one or something according to Discogs but they're a nightmare to track the differences on there...

Well, you only miss two : Headz, and Headz 2B, and you really need them. "Some Scientific Abstract Type Shit" (Australian I think) & "the Story of..." were 2 best-of compilations released - not by Mo' Wax - in other countries. In France we've also had "Faces Z" in 96. They are nice, but they're full of classics and have similar tracklisting with "Royalties Overdue" The Headz comps are essential because they're mainly new & unreleased tracks, or rare tracks from other labels licensed to Mo' Wax. Buy Headz 1 for no more than £20-25, easy to find on Discogs. There's also the grey cardboard repress that's cheaper (and less sexy). As for Headz 2, in my opinion 2B is the best so go for it too There's indeed 2 versions of them, but I've never seen the vinyl-like ones yet (note to self : order them on Discogs this week-end) I've almost forgotten the Excursions compilation. That's another world, a Mo' Wax side project with a different sound, very nice though. The 2xCD is cheap, go grab it too ;D

you also need 'Art of War' and 'Ape Vs Mowax' in your collection if they're not there already.

Yeah, I am hoping to root out the other 2 Headz comps, cheers for the version control info ;D
Noticed that Excursions compilation when i was rooting around Discogs, had never seen that one mentioned before but think i'll deffo go for that as well...
Mog, are Art Of War & Ape vs. Mo' Wax compilations or DJ mixes?
Also noticed there's a Mo' Groove compilation, what's that one all about?

"Art of War" and "Ape vs Mo' Wax" are straight forward compilations (unmixed) and yea - I'd say "Headz" and "Headz 2A" are pretty essential, 'Headz 2B' is OK... but I rarely ever play it (in all honesty... I'm not even positive if I ever bought it, or just always relied on a digital copy -> all of my cd's are in storage back in the US) I've never seen a 'book style' version of either of those, mine are packaged like a 12" (so there's a thick outer cardboard 'sleeve' then a few inserts, and each cd is in a less-thick cardboard sleeve) I've also got 'the Story of Mo Wax' and it's quite nice... although - it is a bit odd that they made the two parts of WDYSLL connected I've never seen either "mo groove" compilation in person, but from just looking at the discogs.com entry... Volume 1 looks worthwhile, but I'm pretty sure all of the songs show up on other compilations ...this just makes me realize - it's been a REALLY long time since I listened to any of these! going to have to update the iPod for tomorrow... Yeah, I am hoping to root out the other 2 Headz comps, cheers for the version control info ;D Noticed that Excursions compilation when i was rooting around Discogs, had never seen that one mentioned before but think i'll deffo go for that as well... Now that I have the majority of the above mentioned compilations I have realised something that i'm quite ashamed I never realised earlier; what an important release Shadow's In/Flux was coz Mo' Wax really was a pile of Acid Jazz wanky-shite-balls till In/Flux was dropped...i've always liked Shadow but now have an, admittedly belated, new level of admiration for him...I really believe he single-handedly made Mo' Wax the label that it is now remembered for...I mean, The Federation, for fucks sake...just awful...

"Some Scientific Abstract Type Shit" (Australian I think) & "the Story of..." were 2 best-of compilations released - not by Mo' Wax - in other countries. For whatever its worth, 'Scientific' is a legit licensed compilation whereas 'Story of' is a straight up bootleg.

What makes you say that? Is does look a little shady and I never bothered buying it, but it it definitely a boot?

im not sure i'd call story a bootleg as such, surely it was a legit release

Discogs say it's a legitimate release on Marlboro Music (0087672MRO). Which I am inclined to believe. A decent selection of tracks, but not essential if you have the other comps.

"Story..." is definitely not a bootleg.

The story of MoWax has, as with a lot of CD's, also a bootleg version.
The original has some kind of fold out "booklet" as with the bootleg version it only has on thin paper of the front of the cd and the back is white!
