The only thing that surprises me is that you are surprised.

The only thing that surprises me is that you are surprised. Not surprised it is the fact they don't bother telling you!! Just had this reply from Pledgemusic:

it's official, James is a tosser.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for pre-ordering UNKLE On the Road Live: Koko. We’ve been working with James on the audio from the show to create the best mix possible for the CD and LP versions of this release & we apologise that this has taken a little longer than expected. We’re hoping to have the new audio mix very soon and will be updating you again once we have further details. As soon as we have the audio finished we will of course send you a download.

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure it should take less than 3 months to mix an album.

Judging from the vocals on the direct to disc recording I reckon there might be a few re-records happening too

I always find that the live vocals are a little ‘pitchy’, nowhere near as slick as the album versions, and that’s definitely the case here, if they’re planning to release this officially I reckon they’ll want them to sound a lot better!

If they're re-recording it, then it's not a live album.
Hasn't a digital release been sent out already?

It’s standard industry practice with most live albums, even for some gigs broadcast on radio. Live music is the main income source now for the music so if a live recording has sketchy vocals it has to be massaged so that people keep on going to the gigs...

They're clearly still trying to figure out how best to tell James that his vocals aren't exactly pitch perfect...

I was not aware of this, I suppose it makes sense in terms of business. It does spoil the point a bit though. Why not just listen to the studio albums?

well, it is pretty common for official live albums have some tweaking / over-dubs after the fact for example: they had to re-record some of the guitar for the Bowie live album "Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (The Motion Picture Soundtrack)" www.discogs.com/David-Bowie-Ziggy-Stardust-And-The-Spiders-From-Mars-The-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/release/2113127Or like - on the "David Live" album, the microphones didn't pick up all of the backing vocals - so they had to do some of those in the studio after the fact... BUT... The live at KOKO album was recorded by "Liveherenow" wasn't it? The whole point of their business is to get the recording right after the show, with NO overdubs I've bought a few albums from them before, and they all sound great (Underworld, Depeche Mode, Orbital) ...I've heard mp3's of the KOKO album, and while yea... the sound isn't quite as good as with the other releases I've bought - it certainly doesn't need a lot of re-tweaking
