The holy trinity of style is/was: Lavelle ( MoWax ) - Nigo ( BAPE ) - Futura 2000 ( GRAF ). They all used to collabo in the early MoWax days and thats the reason shit blew up. Basically they invented the whole hypebeast thing. Lavelle just wore BAPE, Nigo released on MoWax and did UNKLE x BAPE collabo shirts und Futura was providing designs and artwork for both companies. Now, thousand years later all those key players are still around and still get worshipped more or less. Especially Nigo gets a lot of shit for selling out, meaning with the whole Pharrell thing ( its a bit like the Emperor and Anakin Skywalker ) and all the bling bling guys being into it BAPE the brand lost a lot of appeal as its more linked now with bling US rap than the record digging MoWax geek from back in the days. Must admit I wouldnt be into BAPE so much right now if I wouldn't have been down with the brand since the early days. Its a bit like still buying every new Rolling Stones LP because you just have been a fan and always will be. Still, with crap like TheHundreds and all those other bullshit hyped companies around I still prefer the old skool players of the game. Especially when in Japan and a shirt costs me 21 quid and a pair of shoes 70 quid ;D Hope that clears things up!

Hope that clears things up! Wasnt really sure what you were on about But the StarWars Analogy made it all clear! ;D Nigo gets a lot of shit for selling out, meaning with the whole Pharrell thing ( its a bit like the Emperor and Anakin Skywalker )

I hate to admit - but I agree whole heartly with you there Apeo.
BAPE to me still represents the early Lavelle/Mowax days and I still rock the label especially the old school designs and probably always will.

What does that make Sk8Thing? Chewbacca?
I agree that these 3 totally started the HypeBeast style Otaku stuff. IS that good or bad?

Classic Bape will never die... Will be so happy when the Manhunts make a re-appearance.
That said, there does seem to be a re-organisation of the brand as a whole... Now that Baby Milo is no more, they seems to be a effort to differentiate between A Bathing Ape and BAPE, the latter being the over-hyped day-glo nonsense and the former re-introducing the design classics that Nigo built his empire upon.
My h'ap'eth.

and that is the point, my dear apeo i also totally like japanese designers (of cloths, interior, industrial ones etc) because there is always some indefinitive subtle thing, some special feature which differs them from their collegues all over the world so thats why i am sure that i would love nigos old stuff too and why not the new stuff? its not because of the stuff itself but because of the ppl who wear it; its ok if there is some ideology or message behind it (from my point of view, this must be for every kind of style), so its ok if you are wearing it because it has got some musical and cultural background and so you are getting a part of it when buying and wearing some special vetement but...all i see is some bunch of rich bastards wearing bape and thinking their are cool; they are treating other ppl like shit because they dont wear some nigo-stuff do you know what i mean...? its kinda failed market strategy, now on the side of pharrell and teriyaki boys nigo looks himself like a an ape

JL is completely the reason I liked Bape. I got quite a few t-shirts off ebay, before I realised it was flooded with fakes. I did luck out with a couple of real items though. And I got a purple cammo hoody because it is so tasteless. Worn it twice. I've gone off it now because I'm no longer a big fan of t-shirts with obvious logos all over them, and that included monkeys

to me bape is like an old girlfriend you keep on ringing at 2am pissed up and then wake up in her bed full of regret, you know it will never be as good as it used to be but you keep trying in the hope that it will!!! I love the older stuff and keep looking for new tees but the designs are all pretty poor and sick of seeing fools wearing fape, but saying that I love getting a nice package from japan i a zip lock bag!
