DJ Shadow - Endtroducing – 25 (Abbey Road Half Speed Master) A seminal, incredibly influential hip hop release (also regarded as pretty much the last word in instrumental ‘trip hop’, a term used a lot at the time), Endtroducing is simply one of the defining albums of the 90s. It is famously also the first record ever made entirely from samples of other people's records – with a particularly broad array of sources used, many mined from the catacomb-like basement under the artist’s favourite record store in Sacramento, which has long-since closed its doors. This is the store pictured by photographer B+ on the album cover and in many other shots included in the package. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album UMC are proud to present this Abbey Road Half Speed Mastered edition. ‘Half-Speed Mastering’ is an elaborate process whereby the source is played back at half its’ normal speed and the turntable on the disc cutting lathe is running at 16 2/3 R.P.M. Because both the source and the cut were running at half their “normal” speeds everything plays back at the right speed when the record is played at home 7" includes new track 'Endtroducing: Drums , Drops & Scratches' www.recordstore.co.uk/recordstore/recordstore/Endtroducing-25-Abbey-Road-Half-Speed-Master/749A0000000www.recordstore.co.uk/recordstore/recordstore/The-Number-Song-Cut-Chemist-Remix-Endtroducing-Drums-Drops-Scratches/749F0000000

I'd really like to hear a side by side of this. Apparently the half speed technique helps bring out high frequencies but can distort low ones.
It's disappointing there's no digital release announced too if it really is a new master. Seems weird to go to so much effort for a limited edition vinyl pressing.

I’m sure they’ll put out a streaming version, but it’s hardly a surprise there’s no cd when they can charge so much more for a double lp

I think vinyl is out-selling CDs at the moment isn't it? Probably is for the DJ Shadow fanbase I'd have thought. Yeah, a remaster digital would be great too.
I've read similar things about half-speed not being so good for bass, but I think there are ways around it if the engineers and mastering guys know what they're doing. My main worry is if my ears aren't up to it!

Vinyl is generating more revenue, but there are still more cd’s sold than records, it’s just $30 for an album adds up faster than $15, especially when you throw in ridiculous boomer reissues at $125 a record

Ok, maybe I was thinking of sales rather than units . Either way I can see why they've concentrated on a vinyl release.

Just tried again, the code was accepted, it only gives us 320kbps lossy mp3s, no FLAC
