I know DJ Shadow, Money Mark, DJ Krush, and UNKLE are all basically still releasing stuff. But there were so many people signed in the 90's that I wonder how many of them are still working in the industry as artists?
Any ideas?
I had a vague idea to do a podcast (or something) and interview everyone that was ever signed to Mo'Wax about their careers...and then I realised most of them probably have dropped of the planet...maybe?

Do we want all MW artists, or just the non-licensed ones? Dr. Octagon was a license, for example.
Secondly, since some of the acts weren’t really “groups” as such, more like projects, do you want to follow the individual members?
Using Dr. Octagon as an example, Keith still puts out a few releases a year, Dan is producing, and Q-Bert continues to Dj and manage Thud Rumble. the three of them reconvened as Dr Octagon a couple of years back.
Rob D was Rob Dougan, who has continued recording and self-releasing music, following a few years where he featured prominently on soundtracks.
From further back, La Funk Mob morphed into Cassius, who had great success but are now defunct folllowing the death of one half of the act.
Palm skin Productions was really just Simon Richmond, who resurrected the act a decade or so back, but he also records under his own name. His most recent record was Set In Stone, a collaboration with pianist/composer John Metcalfe.
Is that the kind of thing you’re looking for?

Do we want all MW artists, or just the non-licensed ones? Hmm. That's a good point. I forgot how much of their stuff was licensed. I'd be interested in everything really though. That's a good start thanks, I didn't realise a death was why Cassius had suddenly stopped.

Andrea Parker is still doing stuff (there was a kickstarter a few years back)
Rob Dougan is still doing his own music but seems to be on a like subscription that you can access his music ..
Krush is obviously still putting music out quite prolifically.

I've had a bit of spare time over the last few days so I started researching and writing about what happened to some early Mo' Wax artists: medium.com/mo-wax-where-are-they-nowMy intention is to go through the whole MW discography in order of release, but I'll just be slowly adding to it as I have spare time. Let me know if there's any errors.

These are really good! I’m looking forward to Sam Sever and Attica Blues. And whatever happened to Atmos?

Just finding these - mad I missed out, but weekend reading sorted. These are fantastic! Thanks! I'm glad people are enjoying them. It's been interesting to look at the stats and which groups are getting read more. I've added a few more recently, Deep Joy, Visionistics, DJ Krush, and UNKLE, and I've almost finished the next two on Sam Sever and Money Mark. Only another 47 to go after those...

I've caught up to the end of 1998 now, so the next lot will be the stuff released after Mo' Wax moved to XL. I've been following the MW000 catalogue numbers so I've skipped over some misc stuff. I'll make sure to get to those after I finish the main series...should be done in another 6 months. There's a list here: medium.com/mo-wax-where-are-they-now/mo-wax-where-are-they-now-about-contents-aed87f167707It's crazy how Mo'Wax leaving A&M for XL in 1998 ended up stuffing up so many artists. Obviously there were other issues at Mo' Wax, but it makes me wonder what the label would have looked like if they had extended their agreement and therefore kept their artists. One of the biggest 'what ifs' for me is if Air had released Moon Safari on Mo' Wax. Virgin were committed to pushing the band and making them huge, and they were already signed with Virgin in France (via Source), but I really wonder what would have happened if Mo' Wax had been in charge? Would Air be just another forgotten Mo' Wax band?
