The Sam Sever LP was supposed to be released. Remember how it is mentioned on the alternate artwork to 'whats that sound'? Look at the photo below, in the lower left corner. It mentions: "A few beats for the head. From the forthcoming album - Something For The Head" I have spoken with Sam about it, and accounts seem to vary as to why it was not released. One interesting thing is that he apparently introduced James to Futura. He also was a bit miffed when all of the pointmen started popping up in UNKLE artwork because that was his idea. The 'raiders of the lost art' were supposed to represented on his covers as pointmen. THEY were the Raiders of the Lost Art! Ah yes, I forgot the title is mentioned on that alternate artwork. That painting itself is the third part of the original pointman logo triptych (from The Time Has Come)! I wonder why that LP was never released? The single is regarded as a Mo'Wax highpoint. Maybe just a personal fall-out? Lame if so. What suggested reasons have you heard? I've been meaning to contact Sam for a while now, for similar questions. Did you ask him if he has a copy of that album (digital or physical or masters)? But yes, headzheadzheadz finally surfacing is pretty huge.

oh yeah, I have been asking him for years. Unfortunately, he doesn't have much in his archive (on any format). He doesn't even have a copy of Zone Alone.
My thought was to help issue a split 7" featuring "headz headz headz" and "zone alone". For whatever its worth, both tracks on the Headz release are virtually the same. The B side is an instrumental which is just lacking some vocal snippets that appear on the other side (the music is the same)

For headz, I would prefer the 7" reissue to be as close to the original as possible. Even if both tracks are almost identical! A proper Zone Alone reissue would be incredible too of course. So Sam hasn't kept any of his old music? No old tapes, DATs or zip drives?
It's a real shame James Lavelle has no interest in reissuing any of the gems from the Mo'Wax vaults. Books, tees, prints and trainers are all well and good, but I'm sure most of the fans would prefer some actual MUSIC. And not just Unkle music as well, I think he sometimes forgets that there were other groups on the label.

But I argue that a single record, with the two most potent unreleased MW tracks would be far more listenable. So Sam hasn't kept any of his old music? No old tapes, DATs or zip drives? nope. I even sent him a rip of the 'zone alone' songs. He is however, still producing music. But doesn't like to dwell on the past.

But doesn't like to dwell on the past. That would explain why he never replied my interview requests

Hey everybody I had no idea that it was so special to you Maybe I would have kept it then hehe But I got a really good deal on selling it I believe. Still I cant help thinking if a eBay auction had been better, anyway im satisfied with the deal I did Im making a living of buying and selling records (my webshop is http://www.rekords.net) and I visited Jay B (Prunes old manager) a couple of times in order to make a deal on his collection. Fun thing is that first time I was there we just randomly looked at a small stack of 45s, a few hiphop, some reggae, some Kraftwerk and then this 7" whitelabel that had "Prunes 4 JB" written on the generic sleeve - we were both confused about what this was - so yeah he had no idea himself, thought it was maybe a 7" that Prunes had made just for him. He didnt have a recordplayer so we couldnt listen to it. Next time I visited him I had a record player with me and was able to play it, I'm no Prunes expert but I knew it was something special as I know about all other Prunes records except this one and I couldnt recogoize the music. I started writing to a few Prunes fanatics here in Denmark and later wrote to Peder and soon I understood what record this was. Jay B, the manager had no idea about this, I've told him about this and he will be getting a share of the sale. By the way its 2 different versions of the tracks. Side B only has the beat, side A has a vocalsampling saying "headz, headz, headz...". Other Prunes stuff I got in the same deal: Tales From The Darkside Part 2 Test Press - probably gonna keep this but im open for offers 3 x Sealed Tales From The Darkside Part 2 (up for sale on my webshop) 1 x Pizza King 12" Testpress, already sold on my webshop

A real shame he hasn't got a handy CDR to whip up some copies with! So James probably has the only copies, perhaps some other Mo'Wax guys at the time had one. Gah, I just want to hear it. Hey, so are you actually involved in this reissue at all? I've got some suggestions if so! I think the 45 vinyl should be a plain white-label just like the original with the same tracks. A hand-written label would be very cool, "Prunes" or "headz". Then maybe get Swifty involved in a nice picture sleeve (with a stripe)? A Zone Alone reissue should be a separate project I think, on a 12", but done in similar style. I imagine most collectors would want a replica of the originals, I certainly do! Is copywrite an issue at all with these?

Is copywrite an issue at all with these? To be honest, I don't think there are enough MW collectors left who care about the sake of originality. We are it dude. Besides, it is the collector in me that doesn't want to create an exact replica, as it will diminish from the 5 originals that are out there. Yes, it was my idea to release them. Nobody else is, so why not? The problem is that it is a very costly venture, with very little return since the market for old MoWax material is not what it used to be. It would be nice to get Swifty on board, but I do not want to put him at odds with James ...plus it would be another person to pay. ...One option is to do a Kickstarter as a preorder, but I would be afraid of getting laughed out of town! As for the copyright, I have been told that both Sam and The Prunes are the owners. I also spoke with DJ Magic Mike about issuing The Journey Pt2, and he claims to be the owner as well. I have no interest in being apart of a bootleg. Regardless, unless this music blows up and ends up in a Jaguar commercial, there isn't much money to even fight over.

Ah, so it's you driving the project, not The Prunes? Well great idea anyway.
I would personally do a Kickstarter, at least to start with. I think it's a good way of gauging interest, without the risk of any personal investment. Though it's got a bad name around here, there's plenty of artists who don't forget about it and piss off their fans. De La Soul, Gamma Proforma and Lyrics Born did good jobs (I think).
Well let me know if you need a hand with anything, I'm more than willing to get involved! For the actual record, maybe you could do a split 45, but still bundle in the original mp3/wav tracks as a download bonus? I'm a little over-excited.
Have you ever contacted Black Lodge?

Have you ever contacted Black Lodge? Yes, I have spoken with him about 'hotline' but didn't get very far. He was pretty flakey when it comes to communication.

Did you know that Blackalicious fucked up the Imani campaign? In a perfect Mo' Wax style : no rewards or not as expected, little to no communication... The only difference is that I just had to complain to the platform and ask for a refund to get my money back 2 days later.

Did you know that Blackalicious fucked up the Imani campaign? I had no idea about that situation, glad I didn't get involved. Really gone off the Solesides lot recently, new stuff is terrible. Damn, some angry people here! Sounds like the stuff they have received has been shoddy too. But at least refunds are available. www.pledgemusic.com/artists/blackalicious/discussion?project_id=3069Still, from the perspective of the musician/label, crowdfunding is great and low-risk. I can see why they do it.

I went for the "hand written lyrics sheet of my favourite Blackalicious song" (Rhymes for the Deaf Dumb and Blind), which I think was the coolest stuff of the lot. Some backers got theirs, apparently it was only one verse + chorus, but on a facsimile!!!
