Now that these have been sold as part of the latest UNKLE sale, here's a price guide: PSYENCE FICTION ANNIVERSARY T-SHIRT - £35 PSYENCE FICTION ANNIVERSARY CASSETTE - £10 PSYENCE FICTION ANNIVERSARY 7" (SIGNED) - £25 PSYENCE FICTION ANNIVERSARY 7" (UNSIGNED) - £20 Currently on Discogs you can get the tape for £34 and the 7" for £50. There's still some unsigned 7"s on the UNKLE sale website though: store.unkle.info/products/psyence-fiction-anniversary-7-vinyl-unsigned-unk

Hello everybody, is there a chance somebody could repost the anniversary tape and 7” please? I’m very keen to find out what is on them. Does anybody have any idea how many were made? Thanks, Tim

Hi, I'm writing a 30 year retrospective on Mo' Wax for the next issue of Wax Poetics. I've spoken to a lot of key artists and will be focusing on five important records to help tell the story of the label.
Hopefully, you'll like it. This won't be a hatchet job on James but I want to better understand the status of the Kickstarter, has everyone received their pledges? Based on this thread it seems like it, albeit 8 years late! Feel free to reply here or DM. Peaz!

Feel free to reply here or DM. Peaz! That's cool, love the Wax Poetics mag! Yeah, I think everyone got their 7" records, tapes and second tshirts now. The tshirts, prints and posters were received pretty much on time. The main problem was that a reissue of Psyence Fiction was promised, but James no longer has the rights for it. For some reason Universal Records made it very difficult for the planned special edition version to happen (they recently had their own very boring reissue) and it looks like it's been shelved for now. But the main thing about the Kickstarter was funding the exhibition at the Meltdown festival and the Mo'Wax book and that was on time and pretty special. This is a very good place to ask if you need the most ridiculously in-depth and geeky info on the label and everything it put out!

You might want to reach out to the guy who bought the mo'wax record collection as one of the pledge levels. See if he was happy with it, as from memory it took a while and not everything was included.

Feel free to reply here or DM. Peaz! Hey Kano, I wrote a book about the makings of UNKLE's Psyence Fiction which doubles as a bit of a biography of James Lavelle and the Mo' Wax story. You can grab a PDF here (2MB). I've also written a series of articles on every Mo' Wax artist which you can read here. I've written about everyone from the main catalogue, and I'm going through the other misc releases slowly. Hopefully some of that helps you, but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for all your quick replies! @matt - doesn't sound like the Kickstarter was such a disappointment then. Although I'm surprised the funding was used to pay for the book, wouldn't Rizzoli cover that cost? I managed to track the book down for less than $80 but given the wait it appears the seller has shipped it across the Atlantic via canoe. Yes, Meltdown was great. Re in-depth geekery, that was my hope jimmyjrg - I've come across your articles on Medium, major props and ta for the PDF!

It's interesting reading the comments on the kickstarter to see how people's opinion changed. People were really angry after years of broken promises and silence, but then when James Lavelle opened up about the mental health toll the project had taken most people were pretty good about it and were understanding. There's still people a bit bitter though for sure as expectations were raised. The Kickstarter was meant to raise money for an exhibition, and coincide with a new version of Psyence Fiction which backers would get an exclusive version of. That idea evolved as James' ideas got more ambitious though. The exhibition went ahead at Southbank and ran 13 June 2014 - 22 June 2014 and ended up being part of Meltdown 2014. So that part got fulfilled. The book was seperate from the Kickstarter I think. I just saw that someone paid for a James Lavelle remix on the Kickstarter. I wonder if that happened?

No, the Kickstarter technically didn't have any direct impact/financing related to the production of the book... however, I seem to recall some murky messaging about the relationship between the book>show>kickstarter (especially early on). Plus, I mean… it doesn’t make sense to release a book/catalogue for an exhibition, without an exhibition.
(Edit)
Speaking specifically about the Kickstarter items: James basically over-promised on what he could deliver, and honestly - the quality of what was produced was a bit hit-and-miss.

That’s an interesting point about lack of updates. For the past year or so, Lavelle has been really good at communicating with the fans. The monthly emails are really nice, and I assume it is working out for him as well, as he can market the merchandise etc to the people who will be in to it.

If you check the Kickstarter page it doesn't mention the book in the main description, but talks about the book/exhibition together in the updates section. Both the book and exhibitions were about going through JL's Mo'Wax archives and lockup and displaying all the cool stuff. So they're strongly linked and were likely done in parallel. Even if the book wasn't directly funded by the Kickstarter you can't have one without the other, as Joe says. I believe the remix paid for by a Kickstarter pledge was Ten Fé - Make Me Better (UNKLE Reconstruction). But I can't find any reference for that.
