I'd say rent it if you can or DL it. It was good and worth the watch. You see where basically every shot and stunt pulled from the US release came from but the Japanese release has a certain made for TV feel to it.
Did you see the JuOn tv episodes? theres two of them and it's basically the same story of the house but told with additional perspectives involved... with an additional baby in a baggie sequence.

Haven't seen either ... But, I saw this flick last night "Primer". Anyone hear of this? Real strange and hard to follow. So much so, you can go back again and see it for free with your ticket stub ..... The whole thing was made for $7000 supposedly ....

Primer was awesome... So, did you get it? Nothing like a time travel movie done in under $10,000 to make things interesting. Instead of flashy effects it actually had to have a story and I think thay did a good job. I'm going to go take a nap in a box filled with argon and try to wake up before I went to sleep ^_^
One confusing thing was about for they could only go as far back as long as the machine was charging. So say I turn it on at 12:00 and get in at 1:00, and stay in for an hour. Do I get out at 11:00 or 12:00?

11? I generaly got it, but there are still a tonne of questions I had afterwards. To be honest, the first bit I was like "WTF ?", then it started coming together. Might go back and give it another go. You?

Didn't see them but just read about them in a new English culture mag Neo its not a bad read. Might try and get hold of them

Might go back and give it another go. You? i had to read up quite a bit on this film to unravel things. the sound was lacking and I could barely pick up some of the things said. It also moves at a brutal quick pace. For more answers, check out the forum on the official site. there are some really interesting theories on there. -m0

The IMDB Boards for Primer (link) are a good place to start unraveling things. I've seen it about 3 times dragging people to go see it. I live down the block form one of the 3 theaters that were playing it in limited release in manhattan. THey also had the original 'JuOn' playing there and a while ago they had 'Ghost in the Shell 2'. For the last few weeks 'The Machinist' has been there and I want to catch it while it's still playing but I've been busy the last few weeks.

oh my god, dude, i'm dying to see the machinist. it was playing at my local arts theater, which i work at, but no one came to see it and it left in less than a week. my friends enjoyed it though and i've been a huge Christian Bale fan for years, especially since this Batman madness has started.
I saw Ghost in the Shell 2 there, and it was jaw-dropping mind blowing anime.

Ghost in the Shell 2 is the most amazing animated film I have ever seen. Not the biggest in scale as in Akira or Lion King, but it is better in its intricacies. Everyone should check it out. The soundtrack is great as well.

... although I would have prefered ig they stuck to the formula of the "stand alone complex" series or even the feeling of the first movie. I felt alittle 'matrixed' with all the needless cultural idioms and pop-psychology conversations. Seemed more like filler than actual plot. The First movie did some mind blowing stuff in terms of plot dealing with humanity & identity. This one just pulled a "Matrix", which is funny being that the Matrix took so much influence from Ghost in the Shell.
... Now only if the Wachowski's had gotten an asian chick like the original drafts instead of Carrie Anne Moss, but that might have been a bit much.

I just started watching the Stand Alone Complex stuff and I think it is really great as well and yeah a completely different direction as Ghost2. (I was glad to finally see their mini tanks which I loved from the comics) But I have to say I dug the posulating on humanity and the soul which was just continuing the themes from the first one. I see them as very meditative dramas not so much action movies. Also curious if you've seen Avalon which was sort of his response to the Matrix.

I thought Avalon was awesome. In some ways I took it as his response to CounterStrike ^_^ ... Matter of fact, after playing HL2, it kinda reminds me of City 17, Go Fig.
Ever see Oshii's other works like Red Spectacles? Weird, but fun.

Haven't, but just netflixed it. And can you believe I've never played Halo1 or 2. Too much of a GTA nut to get over to an x-box. And in the vein of Japanese movies with heavy digital effects, anyone know where to find a good DVD of Casshern. Or for that matter Immortel?
