OK, more help needed!
I just bought this 2 disc set yesterday called "The time has come EP" and i'm after any info' atall! Track One is 'If you find the earth boring (UNKLE Mix)': is it a mix of one of their own songs or someone else's and if so, who?
Track Two is 'Portishead plays UNKLE mix': eh? is that Portishead remixing the song on track one? if not, what?
Track Three is 'Howie B v UNKLE mix': presumably, remixing track one?
Track Four is 'Coffeehouse Conversation (Plaid mix): i presume then there must be an original mix of this? is it an UNKLE track and if so from where?
Track Five is 'SASSAFRASS (Plaid Mix): Same as above?
Its from 1994 ans my knowledge of UNKLE prior to Psyence Fiction is non existent. However, i know someone out there will be all knowing!
It comes in a cardboard sleeve that my cat decide to pi*s on and it soaks up like a good un'; so whatever you do....DO NOT TELL ME IT IS RARE!!

The tracks are all takes on the oringal U.N.K.L.E. "The Time Has Come" on Mo'Wax / Major Force West (MWMFW004) www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~shivo/unkle77/archive/releases_eps_time.htmlwww.redbrick.dcu.ie/~shivo/unkle77/archive/releases_eps_time2.htmlFirst off, it's not mega rare, but it's getting a lot harder to get hold of it these days, asuming its not the picture disc. Which is. Actually, it is kinda rare. But is it the re-issue? The re-issue is a gray sleeve with a picture of the cover in the 2nd link, which isn't too rare. Details on the tracks are kinda sketchy, some folk say they are all remixes of the oringal (first link) Others say they are all individual track, others say this, others say that I'm glad you brought this up. i'm gonna get to the bottom of this, and get a real answer.

Well if they are remixes, they don't sound like it! I like to think that they're more variations on a stylistic theme. But like you say, nobody knows. Before you ask Arn, yes it's DJ Shadow on the answering machine! My favourite bit is the Bruce Lee solo. If I had a cat that did that, I'd sell it to the nearest Chinese restaurant within the hour.

OK guys, here's the real story, straight from the horses mouth
So the original 12” was more a major force ems orchestra gig. Toshi and kudo messing around with their ems with us and howie b. The unkle 12” is james and I taking that track further along and making it our own thing.
1.The unkle version was made with kudo, james and myself. I think charlie (attica blues) popped in for a while too. It starts off with the same cut up loop from sun ra’s lanquidity but then goes off in a completely new direction incorporating pierre bastien, the performance soundtrack, manfred mann and some unbelievable scratching.
2. this is listed as a remix but is actually a totally original track with no relation to the time has come. I believe that portishead used to start their sets with this track when they played live. There is a whole other story attached to this I believe.
3. this remix was done in one night with howie, james and myself. Starting with a heavily filter loop from the sun ra track it switches into a totally different animal with parts from silver apples, terry riley and of course bruce lee.
4 the plaid mixes are genuine remixes. We gave them a dat of the parts and they came back with the two totally different mixes. Rather than choose one we put both out.

Is Tim checking these boards then?! Wa gwan Shivo? Don't go pretending it's no big deal. Hope he saw the bigtime gay for DFA action too. My Dad's got that Terry Riley LP. He noticed it as I was listening to this EP when I first bought it 8 years ago. It's awesome too.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but now that we have answers I guess it is okay...
Shiv, do you happen to know anything about the rumored solo project from Tim Goldsworthy? I'm very eager for this. It might also be nice to hear what he has to say about some of his other work with UNKLE if you could bother him for a proper interview.
